Welcome to the Dakota Territory Trading Post Website.
We offer unique traditional American Indian art and crafts. Many of these items are museum quality
modern renditions and are signed by registered American Indian artists.
Unique handmade beadwork creations such as headdresses, breastplates and a variety of painted
and beaded bags (for example, parfletch and strike a light) are a few items you will find at the
Dakota Territory Trading Post. Most are made using traditional techniques and materials whenever
possible.
We also carry many unique western-theme antiques and replicas, antique western rifles, Civil
War replicas, handguns, badges and 7th Cavalry replicas and artifacts.
Due to the one-of-a-kind nature of these items, we cannot offer them for sale by catalogue but
will be glad to hear from you regarding items of interest. We will be happy to discuss present
stock and special orders.
We encourage you to contact us by email or phone if you are interested in any of the items or artists featured on this site. Better yet, stop and visit the Dakota Territory Trading Post and see a piece of the Old West!
The Dakota Territory Trading Post building has been a noteable feature of Custer City's landscape since it was constructed in 1882 to serve as a commercial ice house. Since then, the building has experienced many uses among which have been a boot and shoe repair shop, a cafe, professional offices, a museum, a gift shop and finally a trading post.
We are located in Custer City, South Dakota in the beautiful southern Black Hills. The Dakota Territory Trading Post is just a short drive from the Crazy Horse Monument, Custer State Park, and Mount Rushmore.
